Dhadak 2 Is Now in Cinemas – Watch or Skip?

On August 1, 2025, the long-awaited “Dhadak 2,” starring the new duo of Triptii Dimri & Siddhant Chaturvedi, surprisingly made its theatrical debut. In addition to being a remake of the popular Tamil movie “Pariyerum Perumal,” the above spiritual observation to the bestselling 2018 picture “Dhadak” addresses the complex subject of caste discrimination while showcasing an honest and frequently disturbing love tale. The main question, though, is whether you should skip it or not, given the conflicting reviews and the competitive movie ticket performance.

Love Against All Odds: The Story

“Dhadak 2” chronicles the journey of Vidhi (Triptii Dimri), an upper-caste girl, & Nilesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a law student from a marginalized community. The idea of “honor” & ingrained distinctions between communities cause significant upheaval in their developing romance. Long-standing societal differences and the idea of “honor” threaten to disintegrate their fledgling romance. The movie doesn’t hold back when illustrating the terrible realities and injustices that members of disadvantaged castes must deal with, ranging from little slights to outright violence and unfounded allegations.

In her first feature film, director Shazia Iqbal aims to strike a balance between a strong societal satire plus a romantic story. The movie examines how, even in metropolitan environments, caste can be concealed by “moral masks” and is not only a problem in rural areas. It touches on delicate subjects, including student politics, college reservations, and the never-ending struggle for justice and identity.

The Performances: Triptii Dimri’s Standout Performance

Without a doubt, one of “Dhadak 2’s” best features is the cast. Triptii Dimri portraying Vidhi has gained considerable praise, with several critics calling this her “best performance yet.” Her depiction of Vidhi, smoldering with “quiet wrath with wounded resilience,” is allegedly a standout, displaying her aptitude for articulating real emotions.

As Nilesh, Siddhant Chaturvedi gives a sincere performance that captures his early insecurity, his love with Vidhi, and the tremendous weight of conquering the stigma attached to his birth. The leads’ performances are generally praised, despite some critics claiming that the romantic chemistry between the pair felt undercooked.

Saiyaara Blockbuster Movie

The supporting cast makes a substantial contribution as well. Strong support is given by Nilesh’s parents, Vipin Sharma & Anubha Fatehpuria, as well as by college principal Zakir Hussain, whose personal experience is similar to Nilesh’s. The adversary, Saurabh Sachdeva, also performs well in his role as a “psychopath who finds himself a divine-ordained defender who upholds caste order.”

Bold Theme, Mixed Execution: The Critique

“Dhadak 2” has received praise from critics for its audacious and valiant attempt to address the delicate subject of caste. Many have referred to it as “raw and honest,” encouraging its straightforward style of approaching caste discussions, which are sometimes missing from popular Bollywood romances. “Powerful and meaningful,” the movie is said to have a “hard-hitting” message.

But there are some issues with the movie. The execution has been criticized by several reviewers as being disorganized and having an excessive number of subplots that weaken the main plot. Some people believe that the romantic storyline is undeveloped and does not evoke enough emotion to adequately balance the intense caste strife. Although the movie takes up a number of topics, it doesn’t always weave an addictive narrative around them. Additionally, the music has been criticized for being unimpressive and for not bridging the emotional gaps.

Some people’s reflection on Vidhi’s debut, a lack of knowledge regarding caste concerns, was a little annoying; nonetheless, efforts were made to give her a louder voice. Significant CBFC cuts were also made to the movie, which may have affected its original purpose and unadulterated passion.

Box Office and Reaction from the Audience “Dhadak 2” had a slow start, but it had intense competition with Ajay Devgn’s “Son of Sardaar 2” & the current blockbuster “Saiyaara.” At the box office, “Son of Sardaar 2” led, although “Dhadak 2” has gradually experienced an uptick in receipts over its first weekend, suggesting good word-of-mouth. Web audience responses have been overwhelmingly positive, with many lauding its realistic portrayal of forbidden romance & referring to it as an “eye-opener”.

Conclusion: Should I Pay or Skip?

“Dhadak 2” isn’t necessarily your choice even when you are trying for a lighthearted, feel-good romance. However, “Dhadak 2” is unquestionably worth going to if you value films that tackle significant societal issues with an unvarnished if honest fidelity, and you’re eager to see powerful performances from its core cast, particularly Triptii Dimri.

The film’s goal is to provoke idealism, unsettle you, and linger in your mind long after you leave the theater. Despite its flaws, the film’s bravery in tackling a significant social topic makes it a significant cinematic effort.
