Dhurandhar Box Office Collection & Storyline Review
There have been many storms in cinema in the year 2025, but none as thunderous as Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar.” Unleashed in theaters on December 5, 2025, this epic, R-rated spy movie not only is crushing it at the box office but also sets a new bar for just how big the Indian “Spy-Verse” wants to be. Helmets on, folks, because this is one intense ride, and Singh’s most serious performance yet is just the beginning in this gritty, four-hour exploration of Pakistan’s Lyari neighborhood in Karachi’s hidden underbelly.
Here is the full coverage of the box office breaking records of the film and the review of the dramatic storyline that draws everyone’s attention.
Box Office Collection: A Historical Juggernaut
“Dhurandhar” has not only succeeded; it has shattered all records. This film with such an enormous length and “Adult-Only” rating, which is expected to limit reach, has become a phenomenon all over the world.
1. The Domestic Dominance
The film’s performance in the country began on a strong note of ₹28 crore on Day 1, but the actual reason it became ‘monumental’ is the ‘word of mouth’ factor, which took it past ₹600 crores by the end of the third week itself! As of today, the film’s domestic net is at a jaw-dropping ₹668 crores, thus making it the highest Hindi film of all time, beating out the ₹640 crores netted by SRK’s Jawan!
2. The Global 1000-Cr Club
On the 22nd day, Dhurandhar did the unthinkable and crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark at the worldwide gross box office. It is only the ninth Indian film in history to join this exclusive club and the first to achieve this in 2025.
3. Global Appeal
Ironically, it gained a massive audience in North America and raked in more than $15 million. The movie succeeded in beating major successful pan-Indian films such as Kalki 2898 AD and Animal at foreign shores to conclusively demonstrate the value of a localized storyline to appeal to a global audience.
Review of the Storyline: Espionage & “Gangs of Lyari”
Directed by Aditya Dhar, who earlier directed the successful movie Uri: The Surgical Strike, the series consists of eight different chapters and has been derived from real-life security missions. It is largely regarded as a tribute to the strategy devised by the National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
The Plot
The plot involves Hamza Ali Mazari (played by Ranveer Singh), a Baloch man, who goes undercover in Karachi’s Lyari, a very dangerous area. Quickly, he rises within a gang controlled by Rehman Dakait, who is portrayed perfectly by Akshay Khanna. The objective of Hamza, code-name Operation Dhurandhar, involves busting a Karachi-mafia-terror-attacks nexus being fueled by the ISI.
The film is no typical “actioner.” It proceeds like a Gangster Biopic. Hamza stays undercover for years, gaining the trust of the mob and to the point of marrying into their ranks, and at the same time informing IB Director Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan) of their operations.
The Big Twist
The emotional intensity in the movie changes as it becomes evident that the same weapons that he was involved in the transportation of ended up in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The final act in this movie explains that the person known as “Hamza” is in reality Jaskirat Singh Rangi, a death row convict, who is recruited for this suicidal endeavor.
Performances & Direction
- Ranveer Singh: Ranveer is not his usual flamboyant and energetic self here. He is very quiet and deadly. His performance is called his ‘role within a role,’ which is already considered his career-best act.
- Akshaye Khanna: Playing the charismatic but frightening Rehman Dakait, Akshaye is the heart and soul of this movie, having the most well-performed role among the three protagonists. His “Arabic Rap” number is an iconic pop
- Aditya Dhar: Dhar’s style is very aggressive. He has used real audio transcripts of the 26/11 handlers effectively to create a blurring of fact and fiction.
The Verdict: Hit or Miss?
Although some critics called it “exhausting and tiring to sit through in three hours or so,” and “occasionally heavy-handed,” it is evident what the crowd has to say about it. Purafsar is technically impeccable in terms of background score composed by Shashwat Sachdev and cinematography.
What’s Next?
The film ends on a massive cliffhanger, setting the stage for Dhurandhar 2, which is already scheduled for release on March 19, 2026. The sequel promises to follow Jaskirat (Ranveer) as he goes after the mastermind “Major Iqbal” (Arjun Rampal). With its record-breaking run, Dhurandhar has proven that the Indian audience is ready for long, complex, and mature political thrillers.
