Son of Sardaar 2 Released: Ajay Devgn Returns with More Action & Comedy
Finally, the wait is over! “Son of Sardaar 2,” the much-awaited sequel, has finally hit theaters and features Ajay Devgn in his cherished role as Jaswinder Singh Randhawa, “Jassi”. The comedy-drama, which was released on August 1 of 2025, continues the wild fun that has made the initial one so successful. It features a double dosage of action, hilarity, and Punjabi zing.
Jassi’s New Adventures: A Plot Packed with Hijinks
Unlike its predecessor, “Son of Sardaar 2” shifts Jassi’s escapades from the green fields of Punjab to Scotland’s green hills. The action starts where Jassi, having waited for 13 years for his visa, decides to go to Scotland to reunite with his wife, Dimple (Neeru Bajwa). But happiness does not last long, as he is welcomed with a divorce notice!
During this personal crisis, Jassi encounters Rabia (Mrunal Thakur), who owns a wedding dance troupe, by chance. Rabia, too, has been dumped by her husband, Danish (Chunky Panday), and Jassi becomes her tenant. Things become tricky when, in a twist of fate, Jassi is compelled to impersonate Rabia’s husband and a war hero with medals. His mission? To organize Rabia’s stepdaughter’s wedding.
This complex deception results in a series of witty misunderstandings and thwarted attempts at deception, particularly from the potential groom’s nefarious father, Raja (Ravi Kishan), who is opposed to both dancers and Pakistanis – a problem, since Rabia and her troupe are Pakistanis. The movie then tracks Raja’s dubious brothers, Titu (Vindu Dara Singh) and Tony (Mukul Dev), as they attempt to uncover Jassi’s bluff, resulting in more random and silly situations.
Star-Studded Cast and Performances
Ajay Devgn, in a perfect balance of hard-hitting action and impeccable comic timing, is back in form as Jassi. His knack of taking the story forward so effortlessly and offering knockout comic turns is a display once again. He is well-assisted by the promising Mrunal Thakur as Rabia, who, in her first outing with Devgn, looks lovely and gives a good performance, with some critics pointing out a forced chemistry between the lead pair.
The Fantastic Four 2025 RDJ Confirmed Appearance in Credit Scene
But the true show-stoppers, going by early reviews and audience reaction, are the supporting actors. Ravi Kishan as gangster-turned-businessman Raja is a riot, dishing out some of the film’s best one-liners and guffaws with his impeccable comic timing. Deepak Dobriyal, as trans woman Gul, surprises with the depth he brings to the character, while Sanjay Mishra, as local henchman with his signature UP-Bihar attitude, also scores. The scenes between Raja, Tony, and Titu (Vindu Dara Singh and the late Mukul Dev, returning to his role) are some good belly laughs and a touch of nostalgia. Neeru Bajwa also reprises the sassy Dimple, adding to the cast.
Action, Comedy, and More
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and independently made as a sequel to the superhit of 2012, “Son of Sardaar 2” might be loaded with slapstick and a poor plot, but it manages to serve up sufficient laugh-out-loud moments, especially in the first half. India-Pakistan rivalry gags and one-liners are easy to use to fill out the comedy, and a scene where Jassi re-enacts the iconic “Border” film roles is an absolute showstopper.
In spite of the professed minimal action sequences, where Devgn depends mainly on his comic timing and slapstick, the film attempts to be a complete family entertainer. The film attempts to provide social messages about dance as an art and respect towards civility towards Pakistani actors, but sections of these efforts, along with typical song-and-dance numbers, have been met with mixed reviews.
Box Office Reception and Audience Response
“Son of Sardaar 2” opened decently, battling box office space with other new releases like “Dhadak 2.” The film received mixed reviews from the critics, with some accusing the film of being too crammed in the second half, but initial word of mouth on social media has been extremely positive, terming it as a “full-on Ajay Devgn show” and a “complete family entertainer.”
So, if you are looking for a light, brain-off film with desi wisecracks and a funky act by Ajay Devgn, “Son of Sardaar 2” might be your perfect weekend family film. Watch it at the cinema house closest to you and prepare yourself for some sardaari mayhem!
